The finishing of moisture absorbing and sweat wicking fabrics (fabrics), as the name suggests, is to make the fabrics have both water absorption and fast drying.
(a) Water absorption of fiber:
The fiber of moisture absorbing and sweat wicking fabric (cloth) has the characteristics of water absorption. There are many micropores or fibril gaps and surface grooves on the fiber surface, which makes it easy for water to enter between fibers. At the same time, there are many tubular grooves or capillaries along the fiber axis to provide channels for water migration, so the fiber has good water absorption. After water absorption, there is no swelling phenomenon like cotton due to water absorption.
(b) Fast drying of fiber:
The water between polyester fibers is mainly held by the fibers by the attraction of a large number of microporous capillaries, or mechanically maintained in the capillaries between fibers. Under normal ambient temperature, the water is easy to be transported to the fiber surface and volatilized.
The fiber of moisture absorbing and sweat wicking fabric (cloth) generally has a high specific surface area, and there are many micropores or grooves on the surface. Its cross section is generally special-shaped. By using the capillary effect, the fiber can quickly absorb the moisture and sweat on the skin surface and evaporate through diffusion and transmission to the outer layer.
The moisture absorption and perspiration performance of fiber depends on its chemical composition and physical structure. The gaseous water evaporated from the skin surface is first absorbed by the fiber material, which we call the moisture absorption process. After that, the moisture is released through the surface of fiber materials, and the liquid moisture on the skin surface is absorbed, diffused and evaporated on the surface between fiber materials due to the capillary effect produced by the capillary, micropore, groove and the gap between fibers. This process is a dehumidification process. The results of the two processes lead to water migration. The former is mainly related to the chemical composition of fiber macromolecules, and the latter is related to the physical structure of fiber.
Generally, the finishing principle of absorbent and sweat wicking fabric (cloth) is to introduce hydrophilic groups into the macromolecular structure through grafting or copolymerization, so as to increase the moisture absorption and sweat wicking function of the fiber. Carboxyl, amide, hydroxyl and amino groups are usually introduced to increase the affinity for water molecules, so that the fiber has porous structure and larger specific surface area.
Generally speaking, cotton is a hydrophilic fiber with good water absorption, while polyester fiber is a hydrophobic fiber without hydrophilic base, so its moisture absorption is poor. Testing the hygroscopicity of fiber is the basic evaluation method of hygroscopic and sweat wicking fabric. Hygroscopicity indicates the ability of the fabric to absorb water, and perspiration indicates the ability of the fabric to dry. According to the functional requirements of moisture absorption, anti-bacterial and anti odor, we use the moisture absorption and sweat wicking finishing agent SW and anti-bacterial and anti odor finishing agent scj-891 produced by Beijing jieershuang High Tech Co., Ltd. and use the crystallization reaction between polyester fiber and hydrophilic copolymer to form a hydrophilic layer on the fiber surface and maintain the good moisture transmission of polyester fiber, so as to improve the wearing comfort of fabric, reduce electrostatic adsorption on ready-made clothes, and can be washed repeatedly.
The finished polyester cotton fabric has the following functions:
(a) Sweat absorption and air permeability: the finished fabric has excellent sweat absorption, good air permeability, excellent wearability, moisture absorption and quick drying. It can quickly guide sweat and moisture away from the skin surface, which can eliminate the shortcomings of synthetic fiber fabric, such as dryness, air tightness and sweat absorption.
(b) Hydrophilicity and antistatic property: the finished fabric has excellent hydrophilicity, good antistatic property, small electrostatic effect, difficult dust collection, certain antifouling property and easy washing.
(c) Softness: the finished fabric is soft, smooth, comfortable and elegant.
